He holds a bachelor degree in commerce and management (UDSM); International Certificate on Market Access for Food Security (Wangeningeni UR, Netherlands), Certified Trainer – ILO Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) and has attended a number of short courses from local and International Organizations. His main areas of expertise include Business Management, Tax advisory, Enterprise Financial Analysis and Linkage, Project Planning and Management, Financial Products Development and Costing, Project Auditing, Internal Control System Setting for SME’s and General Business Formalization.  The most notable Institutions that Mengistu has worked with comprise the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), International Labour Organization (ILO) – Youth Entrepreneurship Facility, Action Aid Tanzania, Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), Technoserve Tanzania, Nertherlands Development Organization (SNV), National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC), ELTEL TANZANIA and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
