In Njombe, a remarkable transformation is unfolding as one of the region’s anchor aggregators, AM Joldan Company, embraces best practices in post-harvest management under the AID-I project implemented by TAPBDS with the support from USAID and AGRA. This initiative has not only enhanced the quality of grains but also created numerous job opportunities, making a significant impact on the local community.

The aggregator, equipped with a digital weighing scale and tarpaulins provided through AID-I project, has seen a substantial improvement in the efficiency and accuracy of their operations. These advancements have enabled the aggregation centre to meet the high standards required for fulfilling large orders, such as those from the World Food Programme (WFP). The meticulous care in packing quality grains ensures that they are well preserved and ready for distribution.

Training on best post-harvest practices has been a cornerstone of this success. Farmers and workers at the aggregation centre have gained invaluable knowledge, leading to better handling and storage of produce. This not only reduces waste but also enhances the market value of the grains, benefiting the entire supply chain. The commitment to excellence has fostered a sense of pride and ownership among the local workforce.

The positive ripple effects on 102 jobs created including 42 women in sorting and grading, 35 youths in loading, offloading, sewing and packaging, and 25 NFRA employees focused on staking and fumigation. This success story in Njombe is a testament to the power of collaboration and education. With continued support and the adoption of innovative practices, the region is poised for sustained agricultural growth.
