On April 14, 2025, one of our senior executives, Mr. Joseph Migunda, had the honor of addressing a high-impact workshop hosted by Challenge Group Tanzania, as part of the 2.2 billion RISE/E Program launched by Standard Chartered Bank. This initiative aims to equip youth with disabilities with practical entrepreneurial skills. The event was held at Kebby’s Hotel, Mwenge, Dar es Salaam, and brought together a dynamic group of young entrepreneurs committed to advancing their businesses.

During the session, Mr. Joseph  led an engaging discussion on “The Power of Governance in Small Business Enterprises.” The presentation emphasized the often-overlooked importance of establishing clear governance and organizational structures within small enterprises, a foundational element for business sustainability, efficiency, and investor confidence.

To contextualize the concept of governance, participants were invited to reflect on the dynamics of a “home without a head,” a relatable analogy that sparked meaningful dialogue on leadership, accountability, and order within business settings. Many attendees admitted they had previously associated governance with large corporations only, highlighting a critical knowledge gap among small and growing businesses.

The session covered practical governance tools tailored to SMEs, including:

  • Disciplinary procedures
  • Time and attendance management
  • Office etiquettes and professional culture
  • Procurement and requisition protocols
  • Leave and HR procedures

These seemingly minor elements were reframed as the backbone of business integrity and operational excellence. Participants walked away with a renewed understanding of how governance not only supports internal efficiency but also enhances credibility among employees, investors, suppliers, and financial institutions.

At TAPBDS, we remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting governance-driven growth among micro, small, and medium enterprises. We believe that strong structures create strong businesses, and we will continue to advocate for organizational discipline and transparency at every level of enterprise development.
